Chief Executive Officer
John T. Dougherty Jr. is Chief Executive Officer of Louisville Paving and Construction. He graduated from the University of Louisville with a BC in Commerce and has spent his career with Louisville Paving. Starting in 1977, he has served as Estimator, Project Manager, Equipment Manager and Plant Manager. He started the company’s site division in 1983 before moving more heavily into highway work. He serves on the board of the Plant Mix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky (PAIKY) and on various committees of the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors (KAHC).
Joseph W. Dougherty is President of Louisville Paving and Construction. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 with a BBA in Finance and a minor in Philosophy. He joined Louisville Paving in 1992 after 5 years working in the banking industry as a commercial loan officer. He has worked as an asphalt estimator, manager of the company’s athletic surfaces division, President of the company’s trucking company, Material Transfer, and company CFO before being named President. He currently serves on the board of the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors.
Douglas J. Wood graduated from Auburn University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He worked for 9 years as project engineer, field superintendent and project manager on various large projects in North Carolina and Louisville prior to joining the company. He joined Louisville Paving Company in 1992 and has managed the site division overseeing its growth to the largest segment of the business. Mr. Wood is also part owner of Pace Contracting.
J. Kevin Klain joined Louisville Paving in 2000 as an estimator, rising to project manager and division manager before being promoted to his present position as Vice President- Paving Division in 2011. He has a Business Degree from the University of Louisville, is a ISO/QS 9000 Certified Auditor and holds numerous asphalt certifications from the state of Kentucky. Mr. Klain serves on several committees of the Plant Mix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky (PAIKY).
Kenny Roller, P.E.
Vice-President, Heavy/Highway Division
Kenneth R. Roller graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He spent 12 years with the Kentucky Department of Highways before moving to the private sector. Kenny joined Louisville Paving and Construction in 2010 and currently manages the Heavy/Highway Division. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky. Mr. Roller currently serves on several committees of the Kentucky Association of Highway Contractors.
Thomas A. Wood graduated from the University of Louisville Speed School in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and from Purdue University in 1980 with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering. He gained extensive experience over 15 years as project estimator, project engineer and chief estimator of heavy construction projects. Mr. Wood joined the organization in 1997 when he and Louisville Paving Company founded Pace Contracting, LLC to pursue water and waste water treatment plant work.
Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer
Brian A. McDonald joined Louisville Paving in 2005 and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer. A Certified Public Accountant in both Kentucky and Indiana, Brian has 30 years of accounting experience, 21 years of it in the construction industry. He is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, the Kentucky CPA Society and the Indiana CPA Society. An accounting graduate of Indiana University in 1980, he also received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University in 1998.
Director of Business Development
Larry D. Hobson joined Louisville Paving in 2008 after a notable career with Hanson Aggregates. He managed equipment, construction, paving and quarry divisions while serving as President of the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana and the Indiana Mineral Aggregate Association. He has BS from Eastern Kentucky University and holds an Associates Degree in Business. He uses his extensive contacts in the industry as Business Development Director. Mr. Hobson currently serves on the board of The Kentucky Home Builders Association.
Chief Estimator-Site Division
Richard K. Layman has been with Louisville Paving since 2006. He received his degree in Business Administration from Bellarmine College. With more than 31 years of experience in site development, he has extensive knowledge in project development, budget analysis, bid packaging, estimating, contract analysis and execution. He currently holds the position of chief estimator, site division.
Project Manager/Estimator, Asphalt Division
Kerry L. Manning graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce in 1974. He has worked in the Construction Industry since 1974 in various positions before starting with Louisville Paving Co. in 2000. He currently is a Project Manager/ Estimator in the asphalt division.
Project Manager/Estimator, Asphalt Division
Donald R. Miller has been with Louisville Paving since 1988 where his first job was weighing asphalt trucks. He became dispatcher and crew coordinator before moving to sales in 1996. He is currently a project manager/estimator for commercial asphalt sales.
Jason Schmidt, P.E.
Project Manager, Site Division
Jason R. Schmidt is the project manager for the private site work division of Louisville Paving and Construction. He earned his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky. He is proficient in all aspects of GPS design, layout, grade control and three dimensional modeling and programing. While not working, Jason coaches youth soccer.
Aaron Johnson, P.E.
Project Manager, Site Division
Aaron Johnson graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Kentucky. Aaron has over 10 years of experience in the Engineering industry as a consultant for private site development in Georgia, Western Kentucky & Louisville. He joined Louisville Paving and Construction in 2015 as a Project Manager for the site division. During his free time, Aaron enjoys playing golf and being outdoors.
Project Manager, Heavy/Highway Division
Carolyn R. Banet graduated from the University of Louisville in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Carolyn has worked in the construction industry for over 10 years fulfilling positions from Project Administrator to Project Manager. She joined Louisville Paving and Construction in 2015 and serves as Project Manager for the Heavy/Highway Division. During her off time, Carolyn enjoys cycling, running, and spending time with her family.

John S. Mathis Jr. graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He has spent his career since working in both the design and construction industries in the local area. He has returned to Louisville Paving as of August 2015, and is serving in the position of Project Manager / Estimator in the Paving Division.
Assistant Project Manager/Estimator, Heavy/Highway Division
Ethan C. Nally graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He joined Louisville Paving and Construction in 2014 and served in various roles to gain valuable field experience. Ethan now serves as Assistant Project Manager/Estimator for the Heavy/Highway Division. During his free time, Ethan enjoys fishing and being outdoors.

Joseph D. Smith attended Kentucky Wesleyan College and the University of Louisville. He spent 12 years in the golf industry before joining Louisville Paving in 2002. He has worked in several divisions and has multiple Kentucky and Indiana asphalt quality control certifications. He currently is a Project Manager/ Estimator in the asphalt division.
Mike Mulhall, P.E.
Estimating Manager, Pace Contracting
Mike Mulhall graduated from Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky with a dual degree in Engineering and a Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. He has 10 years of experience in civil construction where he has served as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Sales Representative. He has his Professional Engineer License and was hired on at Pace Contracting in 2015 as estimating manager.
Scott Quire, P. E.
QC Manager, Louisville Paving / Director, Bluegrass Testing
Scott Quire joined Louisville Paving in 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a BS in Civil Engineering. Scott is the QC Manager for Louisville Paving and Laboratory Manager for Bluegrass Testing. He has been active in laboratory testing of asphalt mixtures, asphalt binder, aggregates and concrete for 29 years and actively involved with extensive QC testing of highway, airport and racetracks across the United States since the mid 1980s.
Director of Fixed Asset Management
Corey E. Brown attended Jefferson Community College before building a 15 year career at Louisville Paving. He has field operations experience including asphalt foreman, and he holds various Kentucky certified qualifications from job site safety and flagging to Asphalt Field Technician. He has been instrumental in upgrading our ever-growing truck fleet with GPS guidance and tracking.
Manager, Asphalt Plants
Christopher M. Wilson started his career at Louisville Paving Co. in 1994. He has extensive field supervisory experience. He is certified as a KEPSC Roadway Inspector, Work Zone Traffic Control Supervisor, Super Pave Plant Technologist, and Visible Emissions Evaluator. He currently is Plant Superintendent over asphalt and crushing plants.
Project Manager, Asphalt Paving
F. Hunter Strickler graduated with a BA from Miami University in 2009. Hunter is a sixth generation member of the family business. He joined the company in 2009 as the manager of Tenni-Trac Sports Surfaces. He is now a private paving project manager and assists on project management for highway work. He is certified by Kentucky as a Superpave Plant Technologist
Rick Dean is a graduate of New Albany High School and served 2 years in the Air Force (Civil Engineering Squadron). He was hired at Louisville Paving in 1986 as a Laborer and was promoted to Paver Operator during his first year. Two years later he was promoted to Foreman. In 1998, Rick was promoted to Paving Superintendent and has been in that position for the past 15 years.
Human Resource Director
Kristi Travelstead graduated from California State University Northridge with a degree in Business Administration/Human Resources. She has experience in all facets of Human Resources including employee relations, benefits administration, 401K administration, recruitment and compensation. The bulk of her career has been spent in the manufacturing/construction sectors. Kristi is currently a member of the Society of Human Resource Management in both Kentucky and Indiana.
Lisa K. Neal attended Jefferson Community College where she received a degree in Graphic Arts & Design. She had a career as a Producer at Creation Films producing Military Documentaries before joining Louisville Paving in 2003. She worked in several areas of the company before becoming Safety Director in 2012. Her job is to enforce the highest level of employee safety and environmental consciousness at all of our job sites. Lisa has obtained certifications in OSHA 30, Traffic Control, Flagging, Hazardous Communication, First Aid, CPR, Emergency Response, along with many other certifications.
Operations Manager, Bluegrass Testing
Matt is the Operations Manager for Bluegrass Testing Laboratory. He graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a degree in Biology and Minors in Chemistry and History. He has 7+ years of experience working with Louisville Paving Company, first as a Quality Control Technician and then as their Quality Control Manager. His expertise comes with the QC side of an asphalt plant and paving operations, but also extends to asphalt mixture design (Certified in 5 states: KY, IN, OK, AR, PA), performance testing, aggregate testing, and Inertial Profiler (Rideability) testing. He is an FAA Part 107 sUAS (DRONE) Remote Pilot, and experienced with drone use in the construction industry with such applications as aerial surveying (DSM, topo, contour Lines), stockpile monitoring, volume calculations, and aerial photography.
