Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand or gravel of both virgin and recycled materials bound together by asphalt cement, a by-product of crude oil. Louisville Paving and Construction Company produces its HMA at three modern asphalt plants in Kentuckiana. The HMA is then delivered by our trucks to the construction site where it is immediately spread and compacted onto the road surface. Traffic is generally permitted on the new pavement as soon as it has cooled, which is one of the many reasons asphalt is the premier paving product in the United States.
Warm-Mix Asphalt (WMA) is the result of relatively new energy-saving technology that allows Louisville Paving and Construction Company to lower the temperatures at which the material is mixed and placed on the road. There are a number of environmentally-friendly benefits to using Warm-Mix Asphalt, including reduced fuel consumption with a corresponding reduction of greenhouse gases. Warm-Mix Asphalt also allows better compaction of pavements and gives us the ability to work at lower outside temperatures, extending the paving season. And we're able to recycle a higher percentage of reclaimed material which is better for the environment.
